The Fall by Dave Ficke

February 2025 - The Fall

About the Image(s)

Nikon Z6II, hand held, using a 24-70 lens, ISO 51200, 1/320, f4. The lighting was terrible and as you can see there was only one light shining down on the mat. You can see the crowd and referee in the background.

Post, cropped, adjusted shadows and went through denoise.

Hi Dave. What an amazing photo you have taken under such extreme conditions. Even the competitors environment looks dangerous, no mat wrestling on a hard court surface? I can see evidence of your denoising processing (very smooth skin tones) but under these lighting conditions no other choice but still pretty good. Perhaps an alternative process by allowing some noise may give the photo a gritty look that would fit wrestling anyway, even B&W may work as well. The photo is tilted upwards on the left side but easily fixed. You have captured these ladies in a incredible position especially the girl on left side, you can see her face. Another key aspect of this photo is, who is throwing who? Is the girl on the right side preforming the spectacular suplex throw or is the girl in white dumping the girl in blue for an attempted pinfall. In the right photographic competition would be very seriously considered, especially for its uniqueness.   Posted: 02/10/2025 15:04:27

The capture at just this moment of the action is super dynamic, and the lighting on the wrestlers really adds to the dramatic scene. Nice blurring of the background but the crowd is still visible. Horizontals could be straightened, but it is really an eye-catching image.   Posted: 02/18/2025 18:40:10
