Firework in Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong by Maurice Ping Leung

November 2024 - Firework in Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong

About the Image(s)

Location for viewing annual firework in Hong Kong has always been on-land.
Recent few years , the harbour has been opened to allow public viewing on pleasure boats.
My friend invited me to come along for the occasion (1st October).
I have always been taking firework pictures on land .This is my first time trying recording on a boat which is in constant slow motion.
I tried several shutter speeds and eventually came down to1/80 to 1/100 with No motion blurring effect.
This picture showed the 3 stations igniting the fire work , a few other boats in front of our small one and the 2 iconic buildings on the flank-- easily recognised by the locals.

Technical side:
camera Sony alpha 9 lens 24-70mm wide angle, focal length set at 30mm f/4 (largest aperture)
ISO 1600 (auto)
Post capture processing: maining cropping with minimal colour/exposure adjustment using Capture One

I think this is a very good photojournalism image, as it really tells a complete story, with the setting of the other boats on the water, the reflected color of the fireworks, and the buildings on the edges of the frame. I feel perhaps there could be a stronger color contrast so the fireworks "pop" a little more! (A little humor intended there!)   Posted: 11/11/2024 16:50:13
