December 2025 - BRO Workers

About the Image(s)

It was during the first week of October this year that I, accompanied by my wife and some friends, left for Zanskar in Himalayas, but on second day of the trip while we were still in Himachal Pradesh inclement weather disrupted traffic on highways and we were told by local authorities not to move ahead. As we diverted towards Keylong sudden snowfall changed entire plan. Snowfall continued for two consecutive days. It was during this trip that while sitting in our vehicle I made this image of workers of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) who were working in harsh climate to keep roads open. As their truck was moving in front of our vehicle, I quickly capture the situation even without thinking much about camera settings and changing lens. I moved dial to P mode and that was that. The falling snow flakes and their colourful rain coats give a desired impact to the imager. I see the back of truck looks tilted, but much of the tilt was mainly due to uneven terrain. The natural light was low.

Tech specifications : Camera – Nikon Z 50 II, Lens – Nikon Z 70-180 mm f/2.8

Focal length – 90 mm, Aperture - 3.2, Shutter speed -1/160

I downloaded the image and processed a bit in photoshop.

For me, the impact of this image definitely comes from the vivid colors against the snowfall, with those huge flakes coming down. In this case I'm not distracted by the sloping line of the truck, which my mind understands. I think the story is lost in that we mostly see the backs of the workers and very little of the faces so there is no real central focus of the image.   Posted: 12/12/2025 10:02:43

What are they doing, where are they going, why? Agree with Ardeth that the colors and big snowflakes are the story.   Posted: 12/12/2025 11:27:56

The photo benefits from the caption. With the caption, it is a fine expression of the frustrations and travails of travel and vacation. Nice.   Posted: 12/17/2025 20:45:46

I guess when I read your description I get your story. In most PJ competitions even the title is not read so I do not feel this image would receive a high score at all. For most situations the image must tell the story.   Posted: 12/20/2025 13:32:34

I am not certain what is the story behind--perhaps there is a group of heavy-duty workers required on an urgent basis, especially during snowy stormy conditions.   Posted: 12/21/2025 07:16:59
