The image was captured 2 years ago during Rugby 7 played in Hong Kong.
I thought the player attempted for a touch-down but was prevented by
the interceptor , both have obvious facial expressions that deserve a
close -up view. The contrasting color pigmentation of the 2 players
gives an additional point of interest.
Equipment: Nikon D5 500mm f/5.6 1/400s ISO100
Post-processing: Capture One for cropping and minimal color alteration

Hello Maurice, I think you have captured a wonderful moment in this game, and I agree that the facial expressions really tell the story. I can see that you have centered the players and have them against a very neutral background, yet i have no doubt that this is part of play. I do find the image is not as sharp as I would like, and 1/400th sec is usually too slow to take sharp action images. I spend many days over winter photographing our local Aus. Rules Football, and usually start with a shutter speed of 1/1600th sec, moving faster if the light allows. Perhaps consider increasing the ISO to enable a faster shutter speed. (remember, sharpness is more important than digital noise - which can always be removed at a later date). Posted: 04/11/2026 02:08:43
