July 2026 - Scots win MIAC
About the Image(s)
The Macalester Scots won the MIAC baseball tournament this year. A previous study group entry showed the coach getting an ice bath or Gatorade shower after the win. The MIAC Tournament is the Minnesota State NCAA Division lll Athletic Conference, comprised of all Division lll colleges or universities in the the State.
Anyway, Macalester, the Presbyterians, won this year, over St John's Johnnies.
Here, the game has just ended, and the Scots are taking the field.

HI Karen, both the subjects and story here are nice, and the emotion in the image is high. I can see and sense the excitment of either a win or a score. However, for me, the execution of the image (although secondary in the assessment process) is lacking. I see athletes to the right are cut off (suggesting a wider view that you might crop later), and, as Subhash suggests, the colors are just not right (either a color cast caused by the lighting, or over saturation). I note your settings and feel that the shutter speed is too slow for the action (particularly at 300mm) and it's always a choice between sharpness and digital noise, but I go for the higher ISO which I can correct in post production later. Your timing of course is great and the expression on number 40's face tells it all. Subhash and Jen are right on and I have included my attempts at fixing the white balance (I use levels to get it right frequently under indoor lighting) and Photo AI for sharpening. I thing those two tweaks make for a better image. Their other comments are hard to address because of the timing for the shot. Posted: 07/18/2026 12:37:22
