May 2024 - Penn State Dance Team

About the Image(s)

Why I took this image:
Carolyn and I have season tickets for the Penn State home football games, and this was a nice October day. Since neither of us have field passes most of our images are taken from the stands and are not necessarily of the football action. Penn State features cheerleaders and the dancing team. The dancing team does lots of nice skits like this once and once where they emulate the Rockettes.

Camera Settings:
Creation Date (xmp): 2023-10-28T12:44:24.92, Camera Make: Canon, Camera Model: Canon EOS 7D Mark II, Original Date/Time: 2023-10-28T12:44:24.92, Exposure Time: 1/800, Shutter Speed: 1/800.00, Aperture: 4.97, F-stop: f/5.6, ISO Speed: 1600, Lens: TAMRON 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD B028, Focal Length: 150.00

Post processing:
Normal LR adjustments then used Topaz Photo AI for noise and sharpness. Then I cropped slightly to further emphasize the beautiful young ladies.

Wow, classic composition using lines and geometric body shapes. The slight elevated angle of projection , coupled with the golden hair helped to separate individual from overlapping. The head turning and the slight bending of the trunk added on activities of the whole picture. I would probably try to involve the ladies raising the upper limbs, to add on complexity of the activities.   Posted: 05/12/2024 00:08:57

Hi John, there is a lovely story here, but I did have a good laugh when you look closely at some of the women with their wild hair and some funny facial expressions. They are all included nicely in the frame and there are no distractions. Nice and sharp and I see some strong diagonal lines on the ground that draw the viewer through the lines of the girls.   Posted: 05/13/2024 06:31:49

Nicely composed and very well captured. You have chosen not only a good angle but also a precise moment. The body language of the dancers is very pleasing and it all makes me enjoy the image. This geometrical composition is so strong that the white lines that are on the ground do not distract me. Well done.   Posted: 05/15/2024 02:48:04

I love this. Nice leading lines. I particularly like the fact that most of the team have closed fists except one who has her pinky extended.   Posted: 05/22/2024 08:38:16

Nice shot. There is the halftime action for a Penn State football game. A pleasing composition.   Posted: 05/31/2024 15:49:57
