Taken August 2022, I caught this kid's program where a female adult was leading children in the classic dance "Hokey Pokey" in the town square. The Grange Fair is held every year in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania. It is a 151-year old tradition to families to gather there. There are 1000 tents and 1500 RV spaces. It's the United States' sole remaining tenting fair. The fair lasts about a week and has the usual 4H-type competitions as well as entertainment, events, and so much more.

There is an interesting juxtaposition of the children's hands pointing forward and the hand of the women in the background holding her dog. Your angle captured a variety of facial expressions. The children frame the woman in the background and my attention goes to the woman rather than the children.   Posted: 11/03/2024 04:07:52

Hi Carolyn, Since the children are looking in many directions, our eyes are led many places. But as we search for some order or prime subject, we are led to the person with the dog. The foreground children frame the dog person whose expression is the most interesting in this photo. The dog person is the primary subject. Depth of field can be a powerful tool. If an aperture of f/5.6 was chosen with focus on the dog person, the busy background would be less intrusive, and the kids would be an out-of-focus frame. Then the image could be cropped to better emphasize the dog person. Karl   Posted: 11/05/2024 09:27:59
