November 2024 - Music for Timket
About the Image(s)
Music for Timket. When I visited Tigray in Ethiopia for their annual Timket celebration (our Epiphany), everyone is out celebrating. The day before the "big day," the people are singing and dancing in the streets, the priests march - it's an amazing and joyful scene.

I find my attention drawn to the three hands and relationship between the two women creating music. You might consider strengthening this story by cropping tighter. You could also open up the shadow area in the woman's face for the viewer to read the facial expression and emotion and to direct the viewer's eye away from the middle person in the background.   Posted: 11/03/2024 05:00:31

Hi Laurie, Being close to the drummers is an effective way to create dimension in an image and a feeling of participation. Well done. While we are sometimes inclined to crop tighter, having some ambiance can give more context and story to the situation. The drummers' hands are very expressive, maybe more than their faces. Perhaps slight 'burning in' of the background could help separate the two drummers from the crowd. What a fun celebration! Wish I was there. Karl   Posted: 11/05/2024 10:15:37
