July 2025 - Freedom of Speech
About the Image(s)
Canon EOS R10, ISO 250, 1/256, f6.3, Polarizer, hand held.
At the No Kings Rally in Anchorage on June 14th, Freedom of Speech was prevalent. While most (ok, all) the protesters who had signs were of the No Kings variety, this man disagreed and let us know. He was boo'd but no other negative action was taken.
I have cropped out his license plate.
For those who would like to protest, there is another protest on July 4th.

one single sign can say thousand words as it is shown here. Protests can be equally strong even with gestures. Good take Birgit. Even the blurred area seems to be relevant.   Posted: 07/03/2025 09:25:58

I especially like the focus on the driver's hand so we can see his reaction to the science. I think I would have liked to have seen the signs in better focus. I wonder if you could have lightened the one sign that is dark so we could see it a little better. But all in all, a good capture.   Posted: 07/05/2025 11:06:23

Hi Birgit, Sometimes a very small part of an image becomes the story. The middle finger and its shadow are indeed free speech but also show knee jerk ignorance. If the signs were sharper, the man's hand would be lost in a sea of details. It really doesn't matter what the signs say because this image is about disagreement and that is readily apparent in the image. I like the focus the way you did it. In the ideal world, I would have liked to see his face also but we often just get what we can in a situation. Karl   Posted: 07/07/2025 09:05:37
Fabulous that you caught this moment and the hand in focus. The expressions on the protestors' faces in response to his gesture are also worth noting.   Posted: 07/07/2025 18:38:02
The rally I attended had a few drive byes who disagreed and no conflict requiring intervention occurred.   Posted: 07/08/2025 10:32:48
