Losing Innocence at No Kings Protest by Karl Leck

July 2025 - Losing Innocence at No Kings Protest

About the Image(s)

Nationwide protests continue this summer. I attended two No Kings demonstrations and have plenty of pictures of screaming people and original signs. At the end of the day a somewhat different image stood out to me. The image shows a nasty sign that is counterpointed by a peaceful girl securely riding her father's shoulders. I feel a lot of things in this image made on Main Street in Newark, Delaware. I used a Nikon Z& with a Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 Z lens, ISO 400, 1/80 second at f/13.

The poster and the face of the child catches attention at once. You have chosen a good focal length with a wide scene covering the entire environment. Nice shot   Posted: 07/03/2025 09:46:57

I really like this photo. The contrast between the little girl and the sign really makes it interesting. I'm not sure that I would agree with the title and that I wonder if a girl that young would really lose her innocence in that situation, but I certainly think that contrast of the sweet young girl with the sign is what makes this a unique and interesting image. As you say, there are Zoe stuff pictures of the protest so it's really great to find something with a different angle.   Posted: 07/05/2025 11:14:32

A compelling story here juxtaposing the little girl with the sign. The fact that the girl's face is the only one shown makes it even more interesting. One wonders what she is thinking as she rests her head on her dad.   Posted: 07/07/2025 18:31:00

It seems that the story was told by the sign and the little girl so I cropped out the people on the right and erased the sun spot   Posted: 07/08/2025 10:05:47
