December 2025 - Top of the Fixed Lines

About the Image(s)

Scanned from slide, most likely Fuji 100 or 50 film, 1/125, no polarizer, hand held, mostly manual camera. April 1996.

Denali at 16,800 ft or so, at the top of the fixed lines which start just behind the 14k camp. We ended up having to turn around due to high winds and deteriorating weather. That was our only attempt to summit. I participated in the volunteer SAR team, based out of 14k camp.

Hi Birgit, What a great experience! The deteriorating weather is obvious. The dark figures add an ominous feeling. How was the slide scanned? Might there be more detail available in the figures? We forget how tough photographic situations like this can be. You have only 36 pictures on a roll and these are not ideal conditions for changing film. So each image is precious and helps us remember the experience. If we just saw the red and black figures that are gazing straight out, it would be a better story image. But in situations like this, who's thinking about composition. Karl   Posted: 12/01/2025 16:25:54

An exciting experience and well captured. I made some changes by masking the people and snow and cropped to exclude some of the mountains   Posted: 12/03/2025 16:15:34
