Clearing the Pole Vault Bar by Frederick Emch

October 2026 - Clearing the Pole Vault Bar

About the Image(s)

I enjoy going to college track and field events. This one involved several universities. There were a lot of clouds, and the light would get stronger or weaker as the clouds shifted all day. Utilizing a fast shutter speed helped freeze the action.

I handheld a Canon EOS R5 Mark 2 with an EF100-400mm lens at 105mm, ISO 320, 1/3200 sec, f5.6. Shooting in manual mode with no exposure compensation.

Hi Frederick, this is a wonderful sporting image and one that would do very well in a PJ exhibition. There is nothing in your image that I would change! What I see is a clear subject in the pivotal moment of the action, she is well contained within the frame, the sport is very obvious and her face tells a story about concentration and power. Such a great angle, no distractions and the colors look realistic. Well done, it's a wonderful image you should be very proud of.   Posted: 10/14/2026 04:24:38

Hi Frederick, Women are adding another dimension to sport now. The image is simple and clear. Seeing the athlete's face clearly helps me 'get into' the image. Very well done. Karl   Posted: 10/15/2026 09:43:13
