About the Image(s)

I'm sending 2 this month because it was a revealing pair. I first saw the backside of the goth gal and was taken by the full body tattoos. I was intrigued so I snuck around the front, trying to be inconspicuous and managed a quick snap of her face. I've never seen so much metal on a face. Can't imagine she sleeps with all that metal, so the morning and evening routines must take a while? Only speculating of course. (apparently I've led a sheltered life).

Hi Leslie. A very interesting choice of subject matter perhaps IMO more of person photo but still havig HI components. I have cropped the lady even more to accentuate the metal on her face which as you said "I've led a sheltered life". Long term I am sure this will present her difficulties as many foreign objects on the face may well lead to infections unless meticulously clean. In my version I have done the best in removing the guy, any better?

Hi Leslie - Great photo and great instinct to observe this subject for a while. I like Ron's crop, but prefer your original. Another option would be to crop in even tighter, to just show her face, but, again, I prefer your original. The subject's hat, tattoos, metal and expression make her compelling. Great capture.   Posted: 01/09/2026 09:53:45

Yes Richard I thought the same way, my only reservation is that the photo becomes more of a People photo and less HI.   Posted: 01/09/2026 18:23:57

To me what has been posted as main image is ok.   Posted: 01/12/2026 21:10:23

Hi Leslie, what an amazing character (I can't imagine what a dental checkup for her must be like - or perhaps going through the airport scanner!). I can certainly see why you stopped for a photo. There are a couple of points I'd like to make - firstly I consider that if you go in too close, this becomes a portrait rather than a PJ image so while I like all the crops suggested, as a HI image I prefer the original as there now becomes more to the story - an interaction with another person. My second comment hs to do with the blue cast over the image and this can easily be corrected by improving the white balance (which gives her skin a better color) or converting to black and whitel. Tattoos do well in black and white so long as they are sharp - which yours are. My final comment has to do with her expression. I get that, at times, you only get one shot at an image like this, but you might consider using burst in an attempt to get a more comfortable expression.
Your original image works well for a HI image, the subject is nice and sharp against the blurred, non distracting background and she tells a great story with her piercings and tattoos. Yes, sometimes I feel like I've led a very sheltered life!   Posted: 01/12/2026 22:58:41

I like the head on view and think Jen is on to something with the B&W version. The tattoos and piercings are a great indication of this person's life choices and possibly a sign of youthful rebellion. The hat also says a lot. One thing that caught my eye was the satchel over the shoulder and appearing to be taking books out of it. I enlarged the image on the front book cover was a book by Gilly Pickup and I looked up the author and the book is titled "The Little Book of Meditations". To me this also adds a lot to the interest of what is happening with this person.   Posted: 01/13/2026 08:56:09

Good sleuthing. I would have never thought to look up the book title. Interesting counterpoint to the outward appearance.   Posted: 01/13/2026 10:45:14

that's good 'sleuthing'. And certainly adds to the interest in the image.   Posted: 01/13/2026 18:00:11
