Fishing on the ice by Richard Goldenberg

February 2026 - Fishing on the ice

About the Image(s)

This winter in New England has been harsh - many days that were too cold and windy for me to want to head out with my camera. But this fellow seemed to be enjoying a relaxing day on the ice.

I took the photo with my Sony Alpha 1 with a 300 mm lens and a 2x extender for an effective focal length of 600 mm. Settings were 1/125s, f/5.6, and ISO of 160.

We haven't had enough ice this winter in Colorado for even a bird to hop on. This looks like a boring way to catch dinner, he doesn't even have a beer in his armrest. But I like the photo. It does tell a story about what he is doing and how he and his gear got there. All in focus that needs to be.   Posted: 02/03/2026 15:45:14

Is the man fishing? or relaxing? or probably sleeping? The image shares a kind of mood that reflects a moment of relaxing balance that particularly resonates with the background colors. Thanks for catching this moment and experiencing with us, Richmond.   Posted: 02/04/2026 10:20:56
