About the Image(s)

I took this photo on July 24, 2025, at an event at the Massachusetts State House related to proposed environmental legislation. I took the image with my Sony a7CR and an 85 mm prime lens. Settings were 1/60 s; f/11 and ISO of 2000.

HI Richard, its good to see you out and about looking for PJ images! This looks like a great opportunity, and with the owl in the centre of the image, I can see the story. The expression of the woman on the left is wonderful and creates a feeling of awe. Her badge suggests this is an event (I don't need to know what it is exactly). It is unfortunate that the coloring of the owl is similar to the shirt of the woman behind but probably nothing you could do about that. I'm guessing your ISO is high due to the indoor lighting, but the small aperture is probably unnecessary and the image may have benefited from a wider aperture to blur the background a bit more. (Having said that I often forget to change the aperture when I am caught up in the excitment of the activity in front of me.)   Posted: 03/07/2026 19:43:18

Very interesting facial expressions. As Jen stated the owl blends in with the person behind it making it a little hard to identify that it is an owl at first viewing. It still tell a good story with the 3 main characters trying to get the owl's attention or eye contact. That proverbial step to the right or left might have made a world of difference.   Posted: 03/14/2026 16:55:22
