I was very fortunate to be in the staging area and also the ending area of this years Gay Pride Parade in my home town. It gave me an opportunity to get some wonderful candid shots. The whole group seemed to love having their pictures taken and would often pose when they saw the camera pointed in their direction. I do have another image a second later with a full sign on the bottom but the kiss was over and they were moving on. I felt the kiss was more important than the full sign.
Canon R5, f/9, 1/400 sec, ISO 320, 28 to 300mm lens at 70mm. Adjusted some sliders in Raw and cropped a bit.

The expression on the one lady's face is priceless. Sort of an air kiss. Signs not a problem as the kiss action is the focus. Good capture...focus, color, DOF...all good. Posted: 04/06/2026 13:59:02
Hi Tom, this image is a winner for me and one you should consider entering (if you are doing that). There is so much happening - a story about gay pride, 2 fabulous subjects and emotion from both within the image, and looking into the image.
I have no problem about the cut sign, I agree that the kiss is more important and the top sign tells the story successfully.
Well done for getting into the staging area among where the real stories happen. If I have any suggestions, it would be to use a wider aperture (especially if you are focussing on a person) so that the background vanishes a little. Posted: 04/08/2026 04:52:15

Hi Tom, I'm with the others here: the kiss completely carries the frame, and it's such a genuine, well-timed moment. The "kiss" detail and the expression on the both subjects elevate the storytelling - the image is emotionally layered with depth! Posted: 04/18/2026 07:38:21
