This image shows two ladies standing close together, appearing to be friends, while looking at their cell phone and probably checking something together. The image tells a simple story of connection through technology—perhaps they are sharing a message, photo, or social media content. I hope to evoke a sense of familiarity, as many viewers can relate to moments of sharing something interesting or amusing on a phone with a friend in modern life. Are you curious about what they are sharing?

Christine - Your photo captures a classic moment that we can all relate to. I'm a little surprised that the 1/25 sec shutter didn't produce some blur, but the subjects, even their hair, look sharp. It's a nice moment of shared interest between these two. The photo would probably have been improved by panning back just a bit so as to not cut off the top of the head of one of the subjects.   Posted: 04/06/2026 12:01:22

alas, a sign of the times. Lovely young ladies. Nice muted colors. Agree with Richard about cutting off the head. It was so close.   Posted: 04/06/2026 14:05:13

hi Christine, I've had to think long and hard about your image, and I agree with Richard that this is a classic moment that we can all relate to. I was on a train today with maybe 60 people in the carriage - only 2 people were reading books, and maybe 6 were gazing out the window. The rest all had their heads in their phones. I guess my point is that the story here is not new, and this 'cell phone' addiction is now an integaral part of our society. While I think your image is well taken, the colors look great and the settings are fine, I am struggling to see a strong story. I don't see emotions on the faces or anything particularly different, or unusual about the 2 young woman looking at something.   Posted: 04/09/2026 04:20:46

Thank you all for taking the time to look closely and share your thoughts. I appreciate your comments about the story. You're right this is a very familiar, everyday scene, and perhaps that's where it falls a bit short. My intent was to lean into that sense of universality and quiet connection, but I can see how, without a stronger emotional cue or something unexpected, it doesn't quite elevate beyond a common moment. That's helpful for me to think about going forward-looking not just for relatable situations, but for something that adds a distinctive layer or tension in PJ-HI.   Posted: 04/18/2026 08:09:32

Christine, As with the others I agree that the top of the head of the second young lady should not be cut off. Your colors are good in the young ladies and as was mentioned by others the story is weak and lacks some sense of emotion. I also believe that the slow shutter speed does take away sharpness especially in the hand and finger areas.
Yes, as presented this does meet the criteria for PJ-HI.   Posted: 04/10/2026 13:31:14
