Sunday in the park, Cancun by Leslie Larson

June 2026 - Sunday in the park, Cancun

About the Image(s)

Another danceshot. I liked the action in the lady's skirt and the fact that they were separated from the other dancers. Every Sunday Cancun locals gather to dance to taped music played on large speakers. It's hot and sweaty work, but it apparently doesn't bother them. They dance for hours. Taken on an iPhone 14 (not pro), f/1.5, 1/400, ISO 125.
PS, hope your adventure is going well.

Hi Leslie. A great shot showing a group of dancers in their mature years. Often these people are ignored in professional photographs. The Iphone has given you great depth of field with all people in focus showing the depth of people involved in this event, some may not like this though and say background should be blurred. Perhaps an issue and I know it is difficult to photograph but the man's arm is across his face, can really be overcome by using burst mode, probably Iphone will not do this?   Posted: 06/03/2026 19:46:28

Hi Leslie, a wonderful capture with a focus on the couple in the centre. It looks like a random dance in the main square, lots of energy and some fun emotions. I also like the positioning of the couple to the left of the image looking into the right. I do agree with Ron's comment about using burst, but I understand this is not possible with a mobile phone.   Posted: 06/04/2026 12:44:37

I so often forget that a powerful camera - an iPhone - is in my pocket and constantly available. Great use of a iPhone to grab a wonderful moment and very nice composition having one couple in the foreground and the other dancing couples forming a nice background.   Posted: 06/07/2026 16:01:32

Thanks Richard, I also rarely take it out...but sometimes it does better in low light situations. Truth be told, I rarely even turn it on and only use it for the GPS.   Posted: 06/07/2026 16:16:02

Nice action, colors and people enjoying themselves. The pattern on the woman's dress helps form the visual of a twirling action. As for an iPhone shot it is pretty good. Mine is always in my pocket and I keep telling myself I need to use it more but it is always forgotten that it is in the pocket even when others with phones are visible in any situation.   Posted: 06/10/2026 12:07:29
