Another cracking Pride Parade image, and I'm betting you probably have enough for a small portfolio or PJ story entry. What a character, from the feathers to the shoes, his costume tells the whole story. I agree with Richard that showing performers or marchers then they are 'off-stage' can always bring a different dimension to an image. Just a couple of pointers - firstly I can see you have an aperture of f9 which has given you a lot of clear, and unnecessary, detail in the background. When out shooting parades or protests I usually think in terms of 'whole event = f8+, or individual people = f4-5.6. I might work on one for a while then focus on the second. I know that in the moment it's hard to remember what your settings are, but if you do them in blocks (i'm just looking for people = wider aperture) then you are more likely to get it right. My second pointer might be to be a little patient (and ignore your personal discomfort) and wait until the head turns, or the eyes connect. In this instance this man wants to be photographed. Hi Tom. What a fantastic capture of an entertainer pre parade. You have made a good judgement to choose this character for his overthetop dress, rather like Elton John. Jens recommendation using F4-5.6 is better than F9 for eliminating DOF. Even better is using F2.8 or F1.8 although harder to use, especially focusing on subject.   Posted: 07/17/2026 23:41:25
