October 2026 - The end of the race
About the Image(s)
We were lucky enough to be in Tromso, Norway, when they held the Midnight Sun Marathon. It included a series of races across varying distances, culminating in the marathon that started at 8.30pm, and running across midnight (in full daylight). This was taken at the end of the 10km run, this runner actually placed second in the women’s section. I was amused at the way that everyone just stood around, no one assisted as she lay on the ground.
Taken on Olympus EM1 Mk 2, Olympus 12-100mm lens at 35mm
F4.5, SS 1/800th sec, ISO 1250.

Hi Jen. A photo that is almost doom and gloom. Why is she laying on the ground with a group of legs looking over her, has she had a fall and don't they care. Of course as you said it is the end of a race and often compeititors lay around in a collapsed state. A photo that can be interpreted in many ways. My question is, does this count as a sporting photo rather than HI.   Posted: 10/14/2026 05:14:24
Actually Ron, this image does qualify for HI, the wording exclusion is about sporting ACTION, so any other part of a sporting event (ie the cheers, fan, injured players, coaches) are all considered suitable for HI.

I think this is a great comment about marathons. She survived! Particularly apt is the black legged officials surrounding her. I wouldn't expect them to do anything other than keep the peace. She should be allowed to recover at her own pace. I like the bunch of medals ready to be handed out included in the shot.
Agree this is not a sport shot.   Posted: 10/14/2026 11:11:01
