February 2025 - Geishas wannabe

About the Image(s)

On our trip to Japan, and while being in Tokyo, there is a very large and colorful Temple named Sensoji in the Asakusa District, which is a must see stop. We were walking through a long shopping street of over 200 meters (650 feet) called Nakamise completely framed by small stands of food, typical items/clothing and souvenirs. It is common practice for foreign females of all ages to rent a typical Geisha outfit and wear it to visit the temple. When I saw these every non oriental beautiful blond foreigner's, I started to walk backwards in front of them waiting for the right non obstructed full view of the outfits. Some of the locals found musing my doing and so did they.
The image was created with a Nikon D5 with the Nikkor zoom lens 28-300 mm @ 28 mm and these settings: ISO 2000, f/10 and1/1600 sec. The image was PP in LightRoom and cropped.

Your patience paid off. It is interesting to see the blond beauties dressed in traditional clothing compared to the others on the street dressed in Western garb.

Given that posing is allowed and the story has not changed, I find the positions of their purse, feet, accentuate the elegance of their clothing.   Posted: 02/09/2025 21:37:26

Judith, this was not possed, they were walking without stoping. I was walking backwards to keep up with their pace.   Posted: 02/14/2025 16:24:52

This is a very fun photo; the colorful dress, beautiful smiles, and as Judith mentioned, wonderful synchrony of their purses and feet add to the interest and take our eyes directly to your subject.   Posted: 02/18/2025 18:01:20
