About the Image(s)

Perhaps the owner of this car just stepped into the pub for a moment. At any rate, this eagle-eyed traffic officer spotted it parked right under a "No Parking Allowed" sign!
Photographed with Nikon Z8 camera, Nikon 18-300 lens at 58mm
Camera settings 1/160, f/8.0, ISO 1000

Ardeth, this image is all about the reaction that the car owner will have once he/she see's that got a ticket for not reading the 'No Parking Allowed" sign. The face expression will make the image. It makes us create a mental image of that expression. Good eye. Image is sharp and the angle created by the sidewalk going up as a leading line towards the stairs where there is another human component gives a good composition.   Posted: 06/09/2026 03:56:12

Hi Ardeth, What I like most about this image is the small story unfolding within the scene. The parking officer concentrating on documenting the illegally parked car immediately catches the viewer's attention, but after a moment you also notice the woman descending the stairs in the background. This secondary element adds another layer to the image and makes it more than just a record of a parking violation.

I like the way the photograph captures an ordinary moment of urban life. The combination of the car, the officer, the traffic signs, and the passerby creates a situation that most people would walk past without noticing, yet the photographer found an interesting moment within it.
I do wonder whether a slightly different position might have separated the woman more clearly from the traffic signs behind her, allowing her to stand out a bit more. Of course, I do not know what options were available at the time, and with street photography it is often more important to capture the moment than to search for the perfect viewpoint. Overall, this is an enjoyable example of being attentive to the small scenes of everyday life.   Posted: 06/09/2026 05:08:56

I agree with both Isaac and Karel. this is one of the funny circumstances of urban life that tell a story of both future annoyance (the car owner returning later to discover the summons ) and current human interest. IMV, it's the passerby that makes the story and makes the image. Without her, the image would have been just a picture.   Posted: 06/09/2026 06:00:34

A perfect storytelling image, Ardeth. It needs no narration at all. The photograph reflects your trained eye for capturing simple yet unique moments unfolding on the street.

The image is sharp, the exposure is well balanced and the composition is equally pleasing. Everything comes together beautifully to create a wonderful PJ image.

Excellent work.   Posted: 06/10/2026 08:22:45
