Demo against closing a manufactory in Poland in front of the EU commission buildings in Luxembourg City.
At Demo’s I am trying always to have a short shutter speed because sometimes you have to be quick and there is not much time, I am always in manual mode accept for the AF.

Christian, IMV, this image is more suitable for PJD General as opposed to HI, and it's a good one for that. But as an HI image, it doesn't convey an expression of great emotion that would be required for HI, as opposed to being a newsworthy image for PJD in general. Your conversion to monochrome adds to the newsworthy aspect of the image as it could have been on the front page of a newspaper, making it a very good PJD image. Everything is in focus and clear, and the barricades serve as an excellent rendering of a leading line. For taking the image on the fly, your settings were spot on and you nailed it.   Posted: 09/01/2026 06:59:39
I think you are right, there should be more emotions from the protesters or the police officer to be a good HI image. Thanks Alan.   Posted: 09/01/2026 07:25:15
Christian, very intense image, and the police or military behind the created barricade to separate them from the protesters, do not look very friendly. We can make a case that the second man on the left, looking at the police indicates some degree of human interaction. I like the B&W interpretation. Image is sharp.   Posted: 09/02/2026 13:13:54
For me, this image is full of emotion and (human) interest. The barricade between the line of helmeted, dark uniformed men with stern eyes and the line of flags, the intense expression of the man on the left in the stocking cap, all depict a scene of tension. The category of Human Interest simply eliminates images of sport competition to give other genres a fair chance! Whether General or Human Interest, I think all good photojournalism images should have a strong element of human interest, and nothing indicates that a human interest image shouldn't be "newsworthy."   Posted: 09/09/2026 09:15:19

I have to say I agree with Ardeth, I believe this image to be a very strong contender for HI. I see a strong story (the tension across the wire between the protesters and the police), strong emotions expressed (the face of the police on the right and the staring of the protester on the left), and the witnessed emotion (my feelings of what I see in the image). In addition the composition is very strong with a leading line through the image that shows us the number of police adding to the tension. I agree with Isaac that the mono conversion is also strong as it makes us focus on the story rather than any other distractions. I would score this highly in a general PJ or HI section.   Posted: 09/11/2026 20:35:14
