About the Image(s)

I thought I would field something different. This was taken in 2013 at White Pocket when staying at a camp site west of Page: we had travelled into the wilderness the day before and camped just outside the area, with the hope we would have the area by ourselves as the sun rose, but we didn’t. I remember being frustrated that this chap was ruining my shot - I only took landscape images in those days. Now, I am pleased he was there as it gives me an image with more of a story. I only found this a month or two ago and have entered into a couple of PT Exhibitions with success.

Equipment - Canon 5D mkiii with 24-105 lens set at 28mm: 1/250 f8 ISO400, tripod. Judging from the histogram of the RAW file, I had underexposed the image which is what I was always told to do for landscapes, so PP brought the lighting back to what it was likeā€¦.amazing! I do wonder whether I need as much as I have retained the right.

Adrian, this landscape is magnificent, and the presence of the human component gives dimension to the image. His reflection on the little pond complements the image. The colors are very vivid. It is sharp. The slight crop improved the composition since you do not need that much sky. In the original image the details on the corrugated hills in the back are more evident. The new image perhaps is a little too bright. I reduced the brightness and improved the detail.   Posted: 05/05/2021 14:06:16

Isaac. My original has come out too bright. You have probably seen enough of my images from this trip to White Pocket through through our Nature+ group 72, and I didn't get any of them at their best first time!I
I've decided to get a new screen calibration unit and I will work on my master to add more detail. Thanks for your input.   Posted: 05/07/2021 01:45:59

The colors are great particularly the contrast between the reds and light browns. I also like the contrast between the shadow and light.   Posted: 05/19/2021 11:24:19

Beautiful colors, and the man with his reflection add scale. I think Isaac's modifications are an improvement of the image.   Posted: 05/25/2021 14:39:09

I agree with Isaac`s toning down, if I had been there I would have been screaming at that guy!!!   Posted: 05/25/2021 16:02:39

Isn't it a camp motto..."the early bird gets the worm?" But in this case you were able to use the human to your advantage and not only get the reflection in the pool but I see the colour of his yellow jacket highlighted into the rocks to the left right above him. Beautiful scene.   Posted: 05/25/2021 17:01:17

Hi, just passing through and saw your shot, beautiful! I was surprised by the guy there, and then surprised that this did well in competition with him there... good to know that is allowed. Nice find in the archives.   Posted: 05/25/2021 18:34:41
