May 2021 - Cathedral Rock Thru Tree

About the Image(s)

Shot at ISO 400, 22mm, f/16, 1/200 sec with an Olympus M1-Mark II and Lumix 12-60 lens. Cathedral Rock is the most iconic rock in beautiful Sedona AZ so we shoot it a lot. This is on the way down to Red Rock Crossing, one of the best places to shoot the Cathedral.

Stan, great idea to frame the Cathedral Rock with the ancient tree. Being the Cathedral Rock the center of attention, I think that the extra empty space takes away some of its protagonist role so I used a square crop. The image is sharp front to back. Did you do some focus stacking ?   Posted: 05/06/2021 13:11:12

Nice framing of Cathedral Rock at sunset. This is a wonderful time of the day when the setting sun turns things reddish. I was recently in Canyonlands, Utah and the ground turned more red and the shadows grew extremely long as the sun set.   Posted: 05/10/2021 20:17:33

Nice shot with excellent framing and color. I agree that Isaac's crop is an improvement.   Posted: 05/25/2021 14:32:37

An unusual viewpoint of Sedona, I must go there sometime! As a former Bronica (square format) enthusiast I also like the suggested crop.   Posted: 05/25/2021 15:57:27

The tree adds added sculpture to a scene often captured and adds a lot of interest. Great idea!   Posted: 05/25/2021 16:43:19

The square crop helps keep the eye to where you want it. Very interesting idea to do something unusual and different - which works because the old tree itself is so interesting. Thank you for sharing.   Posted: 05/29/2021 11:08:15
