Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, Cholula, MX by Sylvie Tas

February 2024 - Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, Cholula, MX

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken early in the morning with the Popocatepetl volcano in the background

The most challenging part of this picture was to find the perfect location to take it. I communicated with another photographer who had taken a similar picture and then chose an airBnb with a rooftop as close to the location as possible. (since the location was on a highway overpass and now there is a tree blocking the view).

I'm a little lost with the post editing here (in ways it wouldn't violate the rules) and I look forward to read the suggestions on how to make it better.

If this photo doesn't qualify, please allow me to send in a second one. I'm just starting out and feel honored to be part of this group of talented photographers.

Sylvie, I find this image very interesting, specially by the nature of the light illuminating El Santuario. It looks like a custom made beam of light, with everything else with the dull colors. The presence of the Popocatepetl smoking volcano in the background enhances the image which is sharp. The building in the foreground gives scale to the Santuario and the volcano. I commend you for doing your homework and find out what is the perfect vantage point. Post editing is allowed in Travel Photography as long as the result looks "natural". I did crop some of the empty space without cutting any of the main subjects, added slight light to the shadows, and used the Fehaze slider. The colors became a little more saturated.   Posted: 02/03/2024 15:27:15

I like the photos of the comparison before and after, which are very infectious. The palace on the mountain in the foreground has turned golden under the morning glow, especially prominent. The volcano in the distant view tells us the location of the palace, which is very successful and in line with the definition of tourism photography.   Posted: 02/11/2024 08:28:24

I believe this is an excellent travel photo just the way it is, but I might try to do a couple things. I would like to see just a little more detail in the trees above the village and below El Santuario. It appears to me that the verticals of El Santuaro lean a little to the right. I don't know if you can change this without making the village buildings lean the other way, so perhaps it is best leaving it the way it is. It is a beautiful and very unusual image that captured a place and a moment in time. Well done.   Posted: 02/23/2024 18:32:48

Love this image, how the mountains are the same shape and the fog and clouds leading you up and out of the image. The light on the the castle is fantastic. Good job finding the spot to take it from and getting there for good light.   Posted: 02/27/2024 12:05:25
