Seal Sands Pano by Alistair How

January 2025 - Seal Sands Pano

About the Image(s)

Something a bit different. A location I have always wanted to photograph - the industrial NE of England. Waited for high tide and walked out to take the shot.
A 10 pano stitch at night. 200mm, 13 sec, f22, ISO 250. tripod of course. Converted to black and white. I did this because the image had little colour naturally and it just brought out more contrast and texture.

This industrial themed work is great!
The smoke is dynamic due to long exposure, with a very clear combination of movement and stillness, and the starry lights are also very beautiful; I can't capture such a high-definition star halo effect, but personally, I think it would be even better if the radius of the star halo were smaller.   Posted: 01/23/2025 05:08:32

Come back and ask again: Why are there no reflected lights in these three places?   Posted: 01/23/2025 05:33:22

Not sure. I think it is because the foreshortening of the shot means that these lights are on shore and not reflected in the sea, whereas the others are closer to the sea   Posted: 01/23/2025 07:38:03

Very cool capture... another port city like Zhicai's... I love the black and white. Might make the stars less starry, as Zhicai said also. Seal Sands is the name of the town?   Posted: 01/23/2025 09:55:48

Seal Sands is an industrial area - near Middlesborough. It's a very large and traditional industrial area - chemicals, metal working, oil refinery, shipping etc   Posted: 01/23/2025 10:52:50

It's very easy in lightroom or similar software. It does it for you   Posted: 01/28/2025 01:19:31
