About the Image(s)

Taken yesterday at AUSCHWITZ-BIRKENAU. Gates to the main camp. A very poignant and moving visit. Over 1.1 million men, women and children were murdered there. Not just Jews, but political prisoners, prisoners of war, homosexuals, those with mental health and illness, plus anyone deemed to be an enemy of the state.

What struck me most was that this might be history from 80 years ago, but as a human race we are still carrying out these sorts of atrocoties.

Handheld Nikon Z8 with 24-120 Lens. 24mm, ISO 320, 1/400, f5.6. Desaturated colours to reflect impact and sense of foreboding on what was a grey day.

This picture has ideas in the post production and achieves the intended meaning. Great!
However, in tourism photography, its definition specifically describes that "image adjustment is limited to: removing dust, noise, and editing
Reproduce the visual effect of the image without changing its content, and convert color to monochrome. Other technical adjustments including infrared
They are all not allowed. You have adjusted the color, so it does not meet the definition of tourism photography.   Posted: 05/07/2025 08:57:09

The desaturation may be a problem for competition but I like it for your purposes. I wish the whole sign were legible, but not sure that would have been possible.   Posted: 05/16/2025 16:51:19

Nice you composed the building inside a another frame.
If we are focusing Travel section, without altering colors, how about making this monochrome?   Posted: 05/17/2025 20:04:45

Looks like a monochrome already. That is what Zhicai is saying is not acceptable. I say, with no authority at all, it looks great that way, and who cares about competition.   Posted: 05/17/2025 21:59:31
