May 2025 - Røldal Stave Church

About the Image(s)

Title: Røldal Stave Church
Equipment Used: Canon EOS R6Mk2 EF24-105 f/4L IS USM at 31 mm
Camera Settings: Aperture Priority, ISO 320, 1/400sec, f/7.1, -0.67 EV, pattern (evaluative) metering
Lighting Conditions: Midday, partly cloudy, around 12:30 PM local time

Where and When: Røldal, Norway 15 March 2025. Driving tour from around Norway departing from Bergen. This image was taken from the roadside just outside the cemetery wall. While photographing a member of the church came outside and invited us in to see the inside of the church. This stave church was originally built around 1275, but has had several repairs and restorations since that time. It was one of only a few that survived the reformation that took place in the 16th century.

Post-Processing: In Lightroom: enabled lens profile, remove chromatic aberration, straightened & cropped, adjusted blacks, whites, shadows, highlights; then masked the sky for adjustment, then a separate mask for the church for adjustment.

Neat composition
There are many different types of stone tablets outside the church. I don't know what they are for?   Posted: 05/15/2025 07:07:28

The stone markers inside the wall sre gravestone. They contain information of each person buried there.   Posted: 05/21/2025 05:29:05

This is nice.
How about trying different frames a as well. For eg. taking stones (inside the rock wall) as the foreground and try different composition.
In my opinion rock wall is disturbing and divide the photo in to two.   Posted: 05/17/2025 19:55:47

Thank you for your suggestion. I have many different images taken all around the church. I have the straight on view, but wanted to have the rock wall to lead your eye to the building.   Posted: 05/21/2025 05:32:16
