About the Image(s)

Title: Colorful Boathouse Row

This is Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, PA. They change the coloring on the houses all of the time.
I especially liked the row of birds on the wire in front.
Any constructive criticism is welcome… I’m not sure how this photo will do in competition.

In my personal opinion, if the shooting point were raised further, bringing the bird formation line closer to the bottom one-third, and then simplifying the cutting, it might be better because the tree branches in the close-up seem to hinder the appreciation of colorful houses. Keeping the birds below is to showcase an ecologically sound environment.

I love the photo. It's colorful, I agree the birds add interest and it just works for me as a travel photo. You didn't include any info about settings or what you did in post but if the metadata is correct, it looks like it was taken with an iPhone 15 Pro Max, f/1.8 at 1/40. I also realized that the picture was shrunk for purposes of this discussion but it looks like there may be quite a bit of noise and artifact around the lights and houses. If this were taken on a tripod with a slower shutter speed it would likely eliminate some of that. You could also adjust the exposure compensation down -0.3 or -0.7 to darken the sky and eliminate some of the glare around the lights if you wanted. Nice job.   Posted: 01/18/2026 01:38:01
