About the Image(s)
Dabancheng in Xinjiang lies at the mountain pass of the Tianshan Mountains. Its Uyghur name means a perilous mountain gateway. It was a vital post station on the North New Route of the ancient Silk Road and a transportation hub linking northern and southern Xinjiang. Formed by terrain effects, the narrow-pass wind zone brings strong winds all year round with over 150 windy days annually. Thousands of wind turbines stretch across the Gobi Desert, earning it the title of China's Wind Valley.
