October 2026 - Tuisi Garden Inner Courtyard
About the Image(s)
This is the inner courtyard of Tuisi Garden in Tongli Ancient Town, Suzhou. As a World Cultural Heritage site, this private garden from the Qing Dynasty boasts exquisite elegance. In the photo, two-story buildings enclose a small courtyard. Vermilion wooden structures contrast with white walls and black tiles. The carved wooden railings feature delicate patterns, and the red staircase links the upper and lower floors, fully showcasing the craftsmanship of Jiangnan woodwork.
Bonsai trees with rugged shapes sit on stone benches in the yard. Sago palms unfurl green fronds, breathing life into the ancient residence. Sunlight pours down from the patio, creating light and shadow that embody the classical Chinese philosophy of capturing heaven and earth within a limited space. Every brick, timber, plant and bonsai reveals the understated, gentle charm of Jiangnan mansions.
