Burano by Michael Smith

February 2024 - Burano

About the Image(s)

As part of an OAT small boat cruise from Malta to Venice, we visited Burano, an island in the Venice lagoon, famous for the handmade lace emboidered by elderly ladies on their tombolo (lace pillows) and its brightly colored buildings. The photograph was shot using an iPhone 13 Pro.

The composition of this image is so inviting which brings the viewer's eye up the canal where you can view the colorful houses until you reach the end of the canal. The house colors are so beautiful (especially the purple one) and the image is as sharp as a tack. Nicely done!   Posted: 02/08/2024 15:45:09

Great image Burano with the boats and all the colors. Your composition is perfect showing all the interesting areas with your leading lines. I missed this when we were in Venice years ago.   Posted: 02/18/2024 14:21:31

What a colorful image! The reflections in the canal are very interesting. The people in the image add human interest. Lots to look at and linger over.   Posted: 02/21/2024 10:59:00

A fine image of Burano, I particularly like you placing the dark engines on the bottom two boats at the base of your composition. Perfect lighting to display those unique buildings with their rich colours, and your fellow visitors provide scale and interest, great image Michael.   Posted: 02/22/2024 14:50:24

I have been to Burano and enjoyed the color of the building with the boats moored in the canals. You captured it very well. I like the people that you have in the image. I think they add to the story of the place. I would prefer that the one person did not have his cellphone in front of his face, but perhaps that is part of the story also.   Posted: 02/23/2024 18:37:12

I did many trips with OAT and loved them all. I did not do this one. From your photo, I know I would have enjoyed it!
First of all, the colors are wonderful! The whole image welcomes me in! There are many nice touches: the flowers in the window boxes, the reflections, the canal itself and the people, including some tourists, I'm guessing. This is a cheerful and very well done photo.   Posted: 02/23/2024 23:13:12

What a wonderful travel image with great color. The boats and canal lead us right into the image. There is lots to look at. The people and reflection add to the image. Well done.   Posted: 02/25/2024 14:10:48
