Great image of the bridge. I think I drove across it years ago but did not get a picture of it. There is guite a story of ships crossing the bar.   Posted: 04/15/2024 10:59:39

Nice composition of the bridge. Nice sky and sharpness. The iPhone continues to impress with its capabilities. Is the half of the bridge on the water, floating, like several in Washington State? I've never been over the bridge, but took a salmon fishing boat over the bar. Rather exciting.   Posted: 04/16/2024 08:58:00

Sorry I couldn't respond earlier, David. My husband had open heart surgery on the 12th so this has been a busy time for us with our family being here too. (Fortunately he is doing well.) To answer your question, the bridge is not floating toward the Washington side though from the photo it almost looks like it could be. It is so long (4.2 miles) that it may just look lower than it is. I shoot more with my cellphone these days than my "big" camera. Thanks for the comments.   Posted: 04/24/2024 17:41:05

The curve of the approach road adds an excellent lead in to a well composed photograph - the bridge being off centre in particular. Nice and sharp and being exposed to show good colours makes for a fine submission Shirley.   Posted: 04/18/2024 15:40:54

The bridge, foothills and clouds are beautiful and the foreground reminds us of the here and now. People who live in modest housing have this wonderful view! It looks like there is a big drop off on the Washington side of the bridge but I'm sure that it is a smooth transition. As David said, the curve is appealing. Nicely done, Shirley!   Posted: 04/20/2024 23:42:25

The dropoff from this photo makes it look more severe than it really is. And as you say, people in modest housing in Astoria have this wonderful view of the bridge. Thanks!   Posted: 04/24/2024 17:37:33

I love the sweeping curve of the roadway, the arch of the bridge dropping down to the causeway, the expanse of water in the middle ground, the mountainscape in the background and even the fluffy clouds. I find the tree limbs at left and some of the foreground houses in the foreground a distraction, but I agree that the houses add to the sense of place, as do the vehicles making their way across. Altogether a lovely image.   Posted: 04/22/2024 08:38:46

Yes, I thought about cropping out part of the left side of the photo to get rid of the broken tree branch and some houses but liked the sweep of the causeway leading to the bridge. This was taken from the hilltop in Astoria. Thanks, Sukomar.   Posted: 04/24/2024 17:36:25

When you see this bridge, you associate it with the collapse of a bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, caused by a ship's impact. The winding curve composition is very good, and the expression is complete and very good.   Posted: 04/23/2024 02:19:24

Thank you for your comments and yes after what happened in Baltimore, guess people would associate it with that.   Posted: 04/24/2024 17:33:16

I LOVE the sky, the hills and bridge and would like to see a photo of just this, thus cutting out everything below the bridge. Not an either or or, but a second version.   Posted: 04/24/2024 19:50:48

do you like the one that I modified better than the original one? Thanks. Judy.   Posted: 04/25/2024 16:58:47

I do like the modified one except for the tree on the left. It didn't bother me on the original. Other than that, I very much like the second photo,   Posted: 04/25/2024 21:42:33

The bridge is well composed with the curve leading us across the river. We must have seen in on our Columbia-Snake River cruise, but it was years ago. You were lucky to get such a nice sky. Bridges can be a challenge to photograph and you did well. So glad to hear Stan is doing well. Give him our best.   Posted: 04/25/2024 16:57:22
