About the Image(s)

I am submitting what may be a questionable image and want the group to give their opinions.

I am wondering if this would qualify for PT since it is a built scene in Las Vegas made to look like Italy. I took it with an Olympus EM5 and 12-50mm lens at equivalent of 24mm. SS was 1/30, aperture f 8 and ISO 2500. While mu husband was at a convention, I took the hop-on bus around to see the city—not sure I would do that today! Having been to Italy, I was fascinated with the reproductions of aspects of the country.

I guess the question is whether you would think you are in Italy when being there. It looks pretty nice.   Posted: 04/15/2024 11:03:15

Judy, I'm not totally sure of the rules, but to me, irrespective of whether it is a manufactured replica of Italy, it still qualifies as a travel photo. As long as you don't try to identify it as some place in Italy, and identity it for what it is. I think it is a nice image, sharp, with very soft lighting. What time of day was this taken? It looks like early evening.   Posted: 04/16/2024 09:03:52

Some years ago I read the story of how the hotel owners asked the Mayor of Venice to perform the grand opening and he refused point blank, expressing his disgust.
Having visited Las Vegas twice, I suppose you can "wander around the world" on a single street! Your image does have an Italianesque feel to it and, as Michael states, as long as you identify this as a Venetian replica all is well and good. Having been to Venice several times, the clock on the right hand side is the certain giveaway!
You certainly give food for thought regarding PT rules Judy, I would like to hear what Tom Tauber thinks?   Posted: 04/18/2024 15:54:48

I'd have guessed Europe, but I'm not too surprised to see that it's the tinsel-town of Vegas. I agree with Michael that it qualifies as a travel photo. In my former hometown of Greater NOIDA, they've built a Venezia mall, complete with a replica of the San Marco tower and indoor gondola rides. I was never tempted to photograph it, but now that I'm no longer there, I'm wondering whether I perhaps should have.   Posted: 04/22/2024 08:31:53

This is travel in my opinion. All the gold and the blue sky make it an appealing image. I feel like I am invited in.
I like the texture and reflections on the "tiles." (maybe it had rained?) A good example of "The city of light."   Posted: 04/22/2024 23:29:09

I agree that it can qualify as a travel image even if it is a replica of a scene in Italy. Judges may have a different perspective. (While there, a person certainly feels like he is in Venice.) The architecture is just lovely and the lighting. It looks like it rained since the tiles are wet. I would have preferred the photo not to have the group of people on the right but since they are looking away, don't intrude on the photo too much. Very nice Judy.   Posted: 04/24/2024 18:21:40

Thanks for all your comments. I did contact Tom and he felt it was not PT since it looked similar to a set up. However, I also contacted Carolyn and Buket, the ESD for PT and they both think it is OK so I guess I started something:-). I said it was not like a set-up since I had nothing to do with how it was presented. Most recognize this as Vegas.   Posted: 04/25/2024 17:11:43
