Yeni Cami Mosque by David Stout, EPSA

July 2024 - Yeni Cami Mosque

About the Image(s)

Built in 1660-65 AD, commonly known as the "New mosque", as in the history of Constantinople the 17th.century is modern!
As with my interior image of a priory on Malta in January`s round - I positioned myself in dead centre using the wires supporting the lamp rings. This enabled the ideal symmetry of my composition.
Incredibly this submission was taken with my Samsung phone!!!!! I have been inspired by some members of our group - though my use is mainly to use as a back up.

David, a beautiful image of the interior of the Mosque. I am assuming that the interior walls are mosaics, and they are beautiful. The wires and the hanging lamps provide an interesting dimension to your photograph. I have found that my iPhone in conditions with brightly lit windows and a darker interior seems to do a better job in sorting out the extreme contrasts better than my main camera. (Or maybe I'm not skilled enough or to lazy to make all the camera adjustments, which is particularly difficult if you are with a group that must keep moving.) You keep showing images from Istanbul which I missed, which confirms that I must go back there.   Posted: 07/09/2024 12:08:05

I missed that in Istanbul too. Beautiful image with soft color. Yes, phones often do a better job in interiors like this. Mosques are a challenge with the wires and supports. Well done.   Posted: 07/16/2024 11:17:20

We also missed seeing this mosque when we were there too but it was pre-digital. So many beautiful sites there. As you say, the image is perfectly symmetrical and seems sharp too. The lamp rings add some nice contrast. Nice.   Posted: 07/17/2024 16:33:37

Amazing architecture and soft pastel colours. What does the writing in the 4 circular panels read? It's not 100% symmetric, but that's fine - adds to the interest.   Posted: 07/22/2024 09:39:24

Sukumar - I sent the photograph to a fellow PSA member/judge - Majdi Al Naser and he has translated all four. Lower left is Prophet Muhammad, lower right is God - Allah.
Upper left is the name of second caliph after Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him} was Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and was known for his justice and wisdom in his rule.
The top right is the first caliph after the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was Abu Bakr al Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him}. He assumed the caliphate after the prophet`s death in 632CE. Abu Bakr was one of the closest companions to the prophet and the first man to embrace Islam.   Posted: 07/24/2024 05:40:05

This is an excellent image of the Yeti Cami Mosque. Everything is perfect in my eyes! Your information in your description and in response to Sukumar is helpful. No suggestions from me and I commend you for this photo!
I've been on Cape Cod for a week and have yet to take out any of the three cameras I brought with me! My iPhone is always handy!   Posted: 07/24/2024 21:29:43
