July 2024 - Alhambra overlook

About the Image(s)

Taken in May of 2016 on a trip to Granada in the beautiful Andalusian area of Spain. As many of you know, the Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex and is one of the most famous monuments of Islamic architecture and one of the best-preserved palaces of the historic Islamic world.

It was taken at ISO 400 at f/8 1/250 second with my Canon 70D. Unfortunately we had some clouds that were not the most attractive that day we went to get an overlook photo.

Shirley, an inviting photo of the Alhambra, which I want to see someday. More and more I think that I need to independent travel instead of with a tour group, because there is never enough time to fully see places like this when you are on a fixed route and schedule. I agree that the clouds didn't help your image, but not much you can do about that. The people on the wall add scale to your photo.   Posted: 07/09/2024 12:15:49

Michael, I totally agree with you about doing independent travel while you can. it is so much better and you don't have to have all those tourists you are traveling with to block your images. (You need reservations to Granada early or it will be sold out. You can get around that by hiring a private guide whose company purchased those but it was a little pricey but worthwhile doing that. We had a car reserved to drive from Madrid to Toledo and other places including Granada but our plans changed when Stan's wallet was pickpocketed in Madrid. So we took a train to Toledo, had to hire a driver from there to take us to Granada for our early morning apt with our hired guide, then took a train to Seville.)   Posted: 07/17/2024 16:26:43

Shirley, this is a nice overall view of Granada. The clouds don't bother me--that is what you saw. The light on the buildings is very nice and the foliage adds some interest.   Posted: 07/16/2024 11:24:57

I think the sky is very good - quite dramatic! Your viewpoint is perfect to have those three towers spread across the top of the city, as ever well exposed and tack sharp. Perhaps a slight crop of the foliage would make the buildings even more prominent?   Posted: 07/16/2024 14:58:42

Lots to see in this image! The use of warm colors in the foreground and cool ones in the background is a great devise employed by painters to convey the feeling of depth in an image, and it works perfectly here. I'm not too bothered by the clouds either, and I too like David's crop.   Posted: 07/22/2024 09:46:21

This brings back good memories and is a great overview of the area. I LIKE the clouds. The sky and the mountains add drama. David's crop works for me and gives more attention to the subject, the town.   Posted: 07/22/2024 21:36:43
