Judy, were you on another part of the wall when you took this? It shows what you want it to (people on the wall) but for me, the foreground takes away from the impact of the city walls. I've photographed at Dubrovnik, and it can be difficult to exclude the distractions like all of the satellite disks, but I did find some locations that I was able to do that.

I would consider cropping to only show the wall above the long brown roof in the center and cutting out most of the houses in the upper left. I tried it and it focuses on the people and the walls without the distractions. (I don't know how to import my change or I would show you).

Dubrovnik is one city that I need to again visit to better photograph.

Thanks for your suggestion. I think cropping is a good idea. I was there in 1972 when it was still Yugoslavia and again in 2013. Things were very different when I went back. It is a very photogenic city. I added a cropped version.   Posted: 07/16/2024 11:42:29

I too prefer the cropped version - the curve shaped wall in bottom left makes an ideal lead in. Your submission certainly proves this to be a very photogenic city, and as ever, your image is tack sharp!   Posted: 07/16/2024 15:03:37

Your cropped version is much better and pleasing to the eye. I agree that you don't want all those tv dishes in your foreground.   Posted: 07/17/2024 16:38:12

Nice shot. The cropped version is nicer without all the antennas.   Posted: 07/19/2024 15:08:01

This reminds me of "the Great Wall of Girona." Yes, certainly the cropped version is much better, with the wall providing a nice diagonal through the image.   Posted: 07/22/2024 09:56:15

We were in Dubrovnik for several days in the summer of 2007 and I spent a lot of time in Old City since our hotel was very close to it. It must be interesting for you to compare the city in 1972 and 2013. I think your cropped version makes a better image but I do like the seeing the detail of the roofs etc. in the foreground of the original. Sukumar's comment about the wall providing a diagonal is a good one.   Posted: 07/24/2024 22:04:34
