Tran Quoc pagoda by Shirley Bormann, APSA, EPSA

May 2021 - Tran Quoc pagoda

About the Image(s)

Taken in Hanoi, Vietnam, f/8 ISO 320 at 1800 sec. Had problems getting the entire top of the pagoda in but had to play with transform to get the top in too.

This is a beautiful pagoda and i am sure it was a challenge to get it all in. I tried to straighten it with Perspective Efex which did a great job except it cut the top off! I rotated it a bit which didn't solve the problem. I think it would go as a PT image, but I would straighten it more and add sky if needed and use it in PID. The structure on the left doesn't add much for me and if you can straighten it, you could crop it off. I think it would be a stronger image.   Posted: 05/09/2021 19:18:50

This is a really beautiful structure, and the light is great. I'd like to see the structure on the left (and the main tower itself) straightened.   Posted: 05/23/2021 15:36:51

Nice shot of the pagoda. The detail is good.

Getting to the PT definition, what shows us this if Vietnam vs Indonesia or do we care?   Posted: 05/24/2021 13:19:33

The good lighting and rich colours hold attention to the main subject - the pagoda. The palm tree is a slight distraction - more so than the smaller building at the lower right corner, these locations are never easy to photograph and you have made the most from testing conditions Shirley.   Posted: 05/25/2021 11:35:49

I love two thirds of the photo but the leaning partial building and tree on the right bothers me.
I think you have a better photo if you eliminate the partial building and the tree. I know three buildings might be more balanced than two and the tree might be hard to crop completely.
This brought back good memories of a journey in 2011, I think.   Posted: 05/28/2021 12:13:32
