About the Image(s)

Here is another old photo from an Elderhostel trip to the Baltic States and Russia in 2007. I used a Nikon D70S and 18-200mm lens at 27mm/ SS was 1/400, aperture f 10 and ISO 250. I know it is no perfectly lined up, but I did straighten it before processing.

Judy, this must be Russia month. This is a great composition and wonderful image from Peterhof. (I will have to look mine up after seeing all these beautiful photos.) To me, it does not have to be lined up perfectly down the center. Some times people are there hording the center space. I like the depth of the image showing that the water goes out to the Baltic but I also like the buildings midway back and love the checkerboard pattern of the floor which immediately tells me it is Peterhof. Great job, Judy.   Posted: 05/06/2025 17:05:20

Shirley, Thanks. I agree that things do not have to be centered. I wish I hadn't cut off part of the statue on the right, but the place was huge and busy and I didn't want to lose my group!   Posted: 05/24/2025 20:35:58

Like Shirley, I like the composition and it doesn't have to be centered. Somewhere I have this photo, and I took one from the building on the right looking back up towards the palace. It was pretty cold the day that we visited. Having the people in the foreground adds scale to the image. Nicely captured.   Posted: 05/20/2025 13:31:16

I think it is important for the fountains to be vertical, which they are here. If it was centered, the main fountain would have lined up with the center of the canal. lessening its impact. So I think your composition is just fine. The clouds, the crowds, the sculptures, the woods all contribute to this image.   Posted: 05/23/2025 23:28:37

Another place I missed but I can enjoy your photo! After reading your description,
I realize one of the many things I like is that the scene IS off center. It is more interesting to me. As in many of our travel photos there are many people here. I am assuming that they are tourists. I need to read about Peterhof. Nice job!   Posted: 05/23/2025 23:33:47

Russia month indeed!! I missed out on going to this location - what a pity. I particularly like the golden statue in the bottom right corner leading my eye into the picture. A very well taken image of a fabulous place, a top drawer entry Judy.   Posted: 05/24/2025 06:24:16

Thanks to all for your comments. I find them helpful. My October image from Route 66 won a Gold medal recently so I appreciate your input.

Congrats, Judy, om your gold medal on your October image from Route 66. That's fabulous. Re this image, I didn't even realize part of the gold statue bottom right was missing - there are so many things to look at and the clouds are fabulous too.   Posted: 05/25/2025 21:33:06
