About the Image(s)

I was in Edinburgh a few weeks ago and my hotel was close to this renowned building - famous for historical legends!
Some years ago I was giving a lecture to a camera club nearby, staying at the same hotel, and the exterior repair work was taking place. I managed to "wander in" on a cold wet winter`s afternoon, and the cleaning lady kindly allowed me to take photographs inside - now STRICTLY forbidden!!!

A very nice image of the Chapel, David. The lighting on the facade brings out the colors of the stonework, although I suppose the yellow could be lichens or iron in the stone. I read a lot of the Knights Templar and Masonic stories and wondered what this chapel looked like. I like the detail that you took of the capital of a pillar on the inside. If it is now forbidden, you were fortunate to be able to capture it. Why have they forbidden photographing the inside?   Posted: 06/11/2025 12:46:11

Michael - the official reason is "Internal photography is banned at Rosslyn Chapel primarily for health and safety reasons. The chapel's dimly lit interior and uneven floor, with cracked and uneven slabs, pose a risk of tripping and falling, especially when visitors are distracted by looking at their camera screens. Additionally, the chapel is a relatively small and enclosed space, and flash photography can be a potential issue for visitors with epilepsy."
With it`s strong links to Freemasonry perhaps there is also an additional motive to prohibit photography, but I would have no idea about that.

Your image of Rosslyn Chapel is lovely with the beautiful blue sky and the many turrets. Your composition with the angle you took it is also perfect. Very nicely done.

You were very fortunate to have been able to take a photo of the inside some years ago. So much detail that it almost reminds me of some of the interiors of the Indian temples but then this was built in he mid-1400s too.   Posted: 06/16/2025 20:16:12
