Amphitheater in Pula by Judy Burr, APSA, MPSA

June 2025 - Amphitheater in Pula

About the Image(s)

I took this image on a trip to the Adriatic years ago. We stopped in Pula in Croatia to see the amphitheater or arena. I used an Olympus EM5 with 9-18 lens at 18mm. SS was 1/750, aperture f 10 and ISO 200. I processed it in PSElements, NIK and Topaz.

A nice image of this arena, Judy. It looks very large in circumference. Was it enclosed all the way around? The people in the distance really provide scale to this structure. The section to the left looks like reconstruction or had been cleaned. In looking it up, it is one of the sixth largest surviving Roman arenas. With lighting to your back, it unfortunately projected the shadow of what looks like a light tower, and my eye gravitates toward it.   Posted: 06/11/2025 13:03:32

Judy, this place looks huge. I had not heard of this Roman amphitheater but it is a testament to their talent that after so many years, it is still standing. I like that you caught the people in the background which definitely adds scale to the image. Nice image, Judy.   Posted: 06/16/2025 20:30:06
