Travelers' camp, Gunji by N. Sukumar, APSA

July 2025 - Travelers' camp, Gunji

About the Image(s)

I guess a Swiss-style chalet isn't what you expect to find traditionally in the Himalayas, but travel is what it is, and this is a camp for today's travelers at Gunji village (Elevation: 3,200 m or 10,667'), in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, India, close to the border with Tibet and Nepal, where we spent a night last September before proceeding to Adi Kailash. The mountain in the background is Mount Api (Elevation: 7,132 m or 23,773') across the international border in Nepal. Photographed with my Vivo V23e 5G phone, 52 mm @ f/1.8, 1/465 sec. ISO: 100. I thought of cropping out the building at the extreme right (the dining room), but decided it didn't make much of a difference. I'd rather crop out the plastic chairs at the bottom, but that makes the composition too tight.

What a beautiful view and an interesting building that you would not think you would find in the Himalayas. I don't mind the dining room building on the right but would really like to not have the bottom of the image cut off because there are people there. Other than that, nice and sharp and colorful. Wish we could see the photo without the bottom cropped.   Posted: 07/06/2025 18:48:34

Your are right--I wouldn't have guessed where this is! It looks like a nice place to stay with a wonderful background.
I agree about the plastic chairs but sometimes, we can't do much about such things. The people add scale and interest to the image.   Posted: 07/09/2025 13:45:06
