Paamiut Stave Church by Michael Smith

September 2025 - Paamiut Stave Church

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in Paamiut, Greenland in July 2025. We were on a cruise from New York to Greenland, and were supposed to make two stops in Greenland, but the ports were iced in, so they diverted us to this little fishing village on the west coast, at the mouth of the Kvandfjord, and whose population is around 1400 people. Paamiut is known for its large population of white-tailed eagles. This church in the Danish stave style is known as the Church of Peace, built in 1909. It was a rainy and misty day and instead of using my Sony RX10, I used my iPhone 15 Pro Max , ISO 80, 35mm, f1.8, 1/4000

Very nice image of this village in Greenland. It is interesting that it is called a Stav church because the Stav churches in Norway all seem to be brown and have different architecture than this one. Lovely photo. My only wish is that you would have been able to have more sky up above the cross. Otherwise, sharp and well composed.   Posted: 09/11/2025 11:57:38
