October 2026 - Dunnottar Castle
About the Image(s)
This fortress dominates a headland on the coast of eastern Scotland, and holds a major place in Scottish history.
I used the grasses to serve as a lead in to my composition and chose early afternoon to take my photograph - to avoid having strong shadows on the rocky cliffs. In mid September the sun is low enough in the sky to give some modelling light on the castle stonework.

Lovely composition and pretty sky. The wind on the grasses certainly indicates which way the wind is blowing. It seems like the fortress is exposed on 3 sides and looks pretty vulnerable.
As usual, you seem to have planned a great time to photograph it. Nice job, David.   Posted: 10/06/2026 18:37:17
