About the Image(s)

Gdanzk is also known as Danzig in German and is located on the Vistula River on the Baltic coast of Poland. At the center of its Main Town, reconstructed after WWII, are the colorful facades of Long Market, now home to shops and restaurants. If you have the opportunity to visit it, you will not be sorry. This scene was taken from across the water at the amazing old buildings. Gdanzk is where WWII started.

Shirley, beautiful city scape of Danzig. The presence of the Pirate looking ship adds interest to the image. Nice reflections in the water. Image is sharp. Using the new masking tools in LightRoom I added some light to the ship to see more detail, as well as the water reflections. Also made the verticals straight   Posted: 06/11/2022 17:11:45

Great image of the waterfront with the old ship there. It almost looks like Copenhagen area. The reflections on the water make the image along with the old ship.   Posted: 06/16/2022 12:13:22

Gdansk is a beautiful city very easy to visit. The old town is for the most part very compact and well preserved with lots of things to enjoy. The pirate ship is for tourist trips down the river, but the bird beak building along the water to the right is very unique. This was built to unload or load boats and contained in that tower are wheels that men run in like hamsters in a cage to lift the loads off the ships. If the men are not heavy enough, they put on backpacks with rocks to lift the load as they walk in the wheel.   Posted: 06/20/2022 16:23:51

Nice waterfront view and reflections. Wasn't the Gdansk shipyard also where Lech Walesa and his independent Solidarity Union started the revolution whose echoes eventually brought down the Soviet Union?   Posted: 06/21/2022 10:26:13

There is an awful lot of history here. In addition to what you mention, WWII also started near the mouth of the river near Gdansk. Beautiful city.   Posted: 06/22/2022 18:02:34

A fine image of a VERY historical waterfront, the old sailing vessel really makes this photograph a stunner. My only suggestion is a slight trim of R/H side to retain the old buildings on the quay as a backdrop.   Posted: 06/22/2022 16:18:56

thanks, David. I agree a crop might be in order on the right side. I wanted to show the entry from the river.

Best,

I like everything about this, along with the information you and others have provided. The old ship and the reflections are strong points, but the buildings are fascinating. I think this is fine as is OR with David's suggestion of the crop on the right. Very nice travel image.

It does look like a great place to visit. It certainly shows travel and has a lot to look at. The main building in the center does not look straight to me so I changed in using the filter in Elements. It is hard to get everything straight in a scent like this, but I think the main building should be the straightest.   Posted: 06/26/2022 11:26:44
