About the Image(s)

St. Emilion is a beautiful little medieval village in southwest France famous for its wine since as far back as the 2nd century when Romans planted grapes. The town and surrounding vineyards are UNESCO world heritage sites. We spent the previous night in Bordeaux 25 miles away and stopped here for a few hours along the way to some other wonderful medieval villages.

So much history and interest shown in this photograph that is well exposed and in sharp focus, a fine combination for a PT image. My only suggestion to possibly gain a higher mark in a salon would be to trim some content from the left side, which, in my opinion, is adding little interest. My crop also concentrates the eye on the town square, buildings, and especially the superb fortress.   Posted: 09/06/2022 08:34:29

You may be right that I have too much unimportant details to the left. Thank you, David.   Posted: 09/06/2022 13:39:36

Shirley, You certainly got some good shots on your trip to France! I agree that there is too much on the left. There is a lot to look at in this image and it is all interesting, Well done.   Posted: 09/10/2022 19:40:09

I love your viewpoint and after reading David's suggestions, I agree about cropping from the left, although I didn't think of it on my own. As I so often do with your photos, I would love to walk into this medieval village. However, not from the overlook!   Posted: 09/12/2022 21:13:35

Great image of the town from on high. Seeing the square and all the roofs make for a great image. The colors are right on.   Posted: 09/14/2022 12:12:34

Beautiful capture of the essence of the town in one shot. Why didn't I take this shot? I probably would not of cropped the outdoor restaurant seating on the left considering it part of the story, but I can certainly understand the suggestion. I would of selectively brought up the exposure in this area however if I left it in the image.   Posted: 09/15/2022 09:26:05

Great view, capturing the charm of this medieval village. I'd crop to get rid of some of the stuff at the bottom left edge, but probably not as much as David (I'd retain the tree trunk).   Posted: 09/16/2022 03:00:59
