Hassan Tower by David Stout, EPSA

September 2022 - Hassan Tower

About the Image(s)

The tower is the incomplete minaret part of the unfinished mosque in Rabat, the capital city of Morocco. Again I "waited for the light" on a day of rain showers interspersed with spells of sunshine, hence the darkish sky that makes the tower so prominent. I thought the islamic brass lantern made for an interesting foreground to give the image balance.

A unique, beautiful and interesting travel picture. We can always speculate about how it would look from a slightly different vantage point. I am wondering about the possibility of taking the shot from slightly to the right to put that brass lantern all with the dark sky as a background. i suspect you took several shots from different spots and you probably considered that. The exposure, lighting, depth of field and all technical things seem to be right on.   Posted: 09/05/2022 23:25:27

Yes Stan - I took quite a few, by showing a sergeant my military ID I also took some close up photographs of the ceremonial guards on duty at this sacred site. Thank you for your kind compliments.   Posted: 09/06/2022 08:22:46

I love the composition and the colors in this very unique travel photo. The dark skies added alot of contrast to what otherwise may have not been nearly as interesting a photo. I don't think I have seen that entered before or if it had, it was not nearly as interesting. Well done.   Posted: 09/06/2022 13:37:09

Very nice David. I would like a bit more separation in the upright parts of the lantern, especially the tallest one. it is a nice composition, different from what one often sees.   Posted: 09/10/2022 19:34:54

This is a wonderful image, David. I like the composition, the contrasts of colors and the textures. I have no suggestions. As others have stated, it is unique and to me,
visually pleasing.   Posted: 09/12/2022 21:03:04

Great image. I like it all. Could you have given the two subjects more separation?   Posted: 09/14/2022 12:10:59

Rich - I wanted the gold of the lantern to contrast with the rich red of the sunlit Tower, there was quite a lot of clutter to my right side as well as distractions in the backround to the left of my frame so I was quite limited for viewpoint.   Posted: 09/14/2022 12:29:04

Interesting architecture and nice colour contrast. The gold draws the eye, and the blue and red help anchor it in place.   Posted: 09/16/2022 02:45:08
