Egyptian seller by Esther Steffens

September 2022 - Egyptian seller

About the Image(s)

My sister, her husband and I were in Egypt in the spring of 2019. There were always men around trying to sell something. Even though we can't see the front of this man, the photo represents him getting ready to go out for the day to try to earn a living.

This was taken on April 16, 2019 at 1/25 sec at f16, 77mm, ISO 200
Camera Canon EOS 77mm, lens Tamron 18-300.

We are getting ready to go in a few months so are anxious to get there. It is a very colorful photo with the pretty scarves but I would really like to see more of the man's face to make it more interesting.   Posted: 09/06/2022 13:54:02

They sure are pushing tourists to buy! It was most annoying especially at the pyramids. The color is great, but I think it would be much better to see the seller's face.   Posted: 09/10/2022 19:50:34

I agree that this would be a more appealing photo if we could see the man's face, but I thought all the hats and scarves might make up for this viewpoint. Having him interacting with tourists might have made a more interesting travel image.
Thanks for the feedback!   Posted: 09/12/2022 21:33:11

Nice image with the colorful scarves. I agree that have a face shot would have been nice. I wonder how many he had on his shoulder and in front.   Posted: 09/14/2022 12:14:58

With street photography, we often need to take the shot that is available. The story of this shot seems to be this vendor arriving at his selected place to sell wearing what he hopes to sell in the day. It looks like he hopes to sell about 5 hats and a lot of scarfs or whatever they are. I think I will go with a well documented story as a good shot.   Posted: 09/15/2022 09:31:01

I like the colorful scarves. There is enough interest even without the man's face, but there is not much to identify the location - except for the scarf with "Egypt" written on it. The non descrip t foreground at bottom right bothers me, and I'd prefer cropping a little, even at the cost of cropping some of the colorful scarves.   Posted: 09/16/2022 03:23:12

The rich colours add much impact to this photograph, and the textures of the stone backdrop are well recorded. I agree with Sukumar`s suggestion of cropping at the base of the frame - it brings the centre of attention - the seller, larger in your composition.   Posted: 09/18/2022 16:20:16

I agree with Sukumar and David that this is a better image with a crop to the foreground. Thank you!
