About the Image(s)

Image: taken at Emerald Lake (British Columbia), Canada
Date: 2019/10/4
Settings: F2.8/ 1/100, ISO 1000 Canon 5DSR, 16-35/F2.8

I was taken during the evening time; however, it was getting dark, and I had to use a slower shutter speed and the largest aperture I could. The good thing the guy in red was not very good of boating and he did not have big movement.

Pamela, beautiful image of the Emerald Lake at the twilight hour. The reflection in the water adds interest to the image. The lodge with the pine trees forest and the person with the red jacket on the boat give dimension the the whole landscape. The colors are very vivid.   Posted: 05/05/2021 13:42:06

On second thought, the colors are oversaturated, which is not accepted in the PTD. I reduced the saturation of the strong overall blue hue, and finished the image with 50 % of one of Luminar 4 landscapes preset.   Posted: 05/06/2021 13:02:26

Indeed nice image twilight, but I think you got too work a bit harder to improve that file. The sky needs help. The PSA forbid changing PTD image, but you can dismiss that, make a beautiful image and enter it in the PIDC section. The mountains, as well, need help with the lake in the background of the image. Try let see what happens.   Posted: 05/05/2021 14:42:41

Gabriele, You suggest that the sky and mountains "need help." Specifically, what would you do?   Posted: 05/06/2021 12:46:12

Susan have you ever seen deep blue or black trees or forests?   Posted: 05/06/2021 13:53:51

So, you would do color adjustments on the areas that you feel look unrealistic? Would you make any other edits?
I see what you see in the sky and mountains, but in the interest of improving my images, I find specific suggestions to be very helpful.   Posted: 05/06/2021 14:03:15

You can't give specific suggestions without seen, first, the original file. Our comments are very generic, and sometime the image on my monitor can, easily, different than other monitors.   Posted: 05/06/2021 14:14:25

A beautiful image. Composition is strong. The boater takes me right into the photo, and the walkway takes me right to the building. The exposure and focus are very good. I think you chose the right settings. The reflections, the lighted building and the red jacket really make this special. I would suggest bringing the saturation down a little, as Isaac has also stated.   Posted: 05/07/2021 19:01:30

Pamela,
A beautiful shot - not easy at that time of day!! I might suggest bringing the sky area down to 1/3 rd and maybe setting the red coat fellow at closer to the third angle. I love the colors, but also think they are somewhat saturated. Remember, however, that most of our suggestions are somewhat personal and only reflect personal choice. The story of beauty, calm and solitude of the natural world shines brightly in this photo!   Posted: 05/18/2021 06:58:30

I would crop it as shown to give the image better balance. As cropped, the boater balances the image against the lodge on the right, whereas in the original the area to the left of the boater draws the eye too much. I agree with other comments that the image is a bit too blue, too saturated. I used an adjustment layer, color balance, and added some cyan. What was your post processing?   Posted: 05/20/2021 14:13:28

I too prefer Tom`s crop and adjustments, but you were certainly in the right place at the right time.   Posted: 05/26/2021 05:04:37
